Letters From Vietnam

-2-

which I just returned from. Let's see, where was I? Oh yeah! All that stuff. Of course, you'll have to find                  "Pro G.I. in V.N." Girls.

Buddy, you haven't walked across anything until you walked across the rice paddy at your knees in H20.

I can get R&R anytime after three months. But due to the cost I may not take it at all. I'd like to try and save the $.

What do you think of the "Road Runner"**? I've heard a lot about its since I've been here.

What do you mean you should take another English course? At least you knew there was something wrong with the sentence.

After two months, I still haven't been shot at (personally) or fired a shot in anger (except at a rat my bunker). It's a hell of a war but the only one we've got***.

Better close for now as I just got back from the operation and am beat.

Your Friend,

Mike

** During Nam, G.I.s could buy carse through the Army/Air Force Exchange Service (PX/BX) very cheaply.

*** A common expresion was, “It’s not much of a war, but it’s the only one we have.” This letter was pre-Tet ‘68, when things really began to heat up. Between this letter and Tet, I finally got shot at - a lot. And even returned some fire.
