Letters From Vietnam

25-Aug-67_01.rtf

 -3-

I've got 4 VN laborers, one VN truck driver and an interpreter who work for me. Like I say, the job isn't bad. I just like it                 better out on an a-site or Mike Force or C&C Det. Or anything away from here. AARRGGG.

I  think I told you about those girl who were writing me. Well I just got a letter from another girl in Brownsville, Texas. Seems she's a friend of the one I'm writing there. Honduras is her home, but she's here for six years. She's also 19, the best I can make out. No word on those cameras yet. All the P.X.'s have been closed because of the panic around here. They've opened now but are so crowded there are 1 1/2 km lines to get in. As soon as I get a chance, I'll let you know.

Well. Say "Hi" to all for me.

See ya'll in Aug. Just 171 more days in this lovely country. LBJ (I assume this is what I meant.) for president!

Your friend till the end,                                           Mk

Notes:

“Mike Force” was a quick reaction, re-enforcement company that was held in the rear and saw lots of action.

I finally got to the C&C Det (Command and Control, North) when I returned to Nam in ‘69. Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it.

We received “care packages,” distributed by the Red Cross, from mostly young women. Many of us started pen-pal relationships which usually died after a few letters.
